Sony continues to inch toward a full two weeks of lost service for PlayStation Network

As Sony continues to inch toward a full two weeks of lost service for PlayStation Network and Qrirocity customers, there is more and more pressure on the company to address the growing numbers of questions being lobbed in its direction. The first steps were taken earlier this week toward addressing the demands of the 77 million users who have had their personal data stolen and been left without service since last Wednesday, in the form of a Sony-penned Q&A. Today brings part two of that Q&A, presumably with more to come given Dell xps m1330 battery,Dell inspiron 1300 battery that today’s answers serve to raise additional questions.
The key points discussed in Patrick Seybold’s PlayStation Blog post relate to how each user’s game & community data has been affected by the outage (other than being currently inaccessible, it hasn’t) and what the company’s plans are moving forward, after service is restored. This second point is obviously much more rooted in the realm of the theoretical at this point, as there’s no restored service to speak of yet, and the length of time between now and when that happens will probably play a role in any decisions.
PlayStation Network is home to a number of massively multiplayer online role-playing games, such as the recently released DC Universe Online. Since these types of games involve subscriptions that aren’t associated with or paid to PlayStation Network, Seybold defers to a statement from Sony Online Entertainment:
“We apologize for any inconvenience players may have experienced as a result of the recent service interruption. As a global leader in online gaming, SOE is committed to delivering stable and entertaining games for players of all ages. To thank players for their patience, we will be hosting special events across our game portfolio. We are also working Hp pavilion dv6000 battery,Hp dv8000 batteries on a ‘make good’ plan for players of the PS3 versions of DC Universe Online and Free Realms. Details will be available soon on the individual game websites and forums.”
As for the PlayStation Network, the basic service allowing gamers to connect and play together online is completely free, in contrast to Microsoft‘s subscription-based Xbox Live. PS3 owners can subscribe to the PS Plus program for added benefits, and those people are simply out of luck right now. There’s also an argument that the PS3′s “free online play” offering is a selling point that motivates consumers to choose the console over the Xbox 360. Then there’s Qrirocity, which is entirely subscription-based.

Nokia pretty much every major device maker has a tablet in the works

There’ve been rumors that Nokia was preparing to launch a consumer tablet floating around  for a while, but now The Street is pretty sure it’sgoing to happen this year, possibly as early as this fall. The tablet will likely run a version of the MeeGo Linux operating system, but that’s about all we know about the device at this point.
The tip comes from an analyst with access to Nokia’s technology partners. I’d take it with a grain of salt for now, but honestly, at this point it’s more surprising when a company insists it won’t release a tablet than when it does. Pretty much every major device maker has a tablet in the works.
This wouldn’t be the first time Nokia entered the tablet space. The company’s N700, N800, and N900 line of devices have been blurring the lines between phones and tablets for years, but they’ve never sold in very large numbers.
And while MeeGo is the most likely choice for an operating system, as Nokia has been backing Maemo and MeeGo development for years, it’s not the only option Hp pavilion dv6 battery,Hp probook 4510s battery available. After all, Nokia recently announced that it would phase out its Symbian-based smartphones in favor of Windows Phone 7soon. It’d be a bit surprising, but not a complete shock if the company decided to ditch MeeGo for Android or even Windows.
On the other hand, MeeGo has a few things going for it. Not only is the Linux-based operating system already designed for low power mobile devices and highly customizable, but we’ve also already seen that you canconvince some Android apps to run on MeeGo with a little work.
Nokia is building a tablet, which shouldn't surprise anyone. But don't expect this tablet to be another me-too tablet. It'll be different!
That's what they all say, right?
When asked about his company's tablet plans on a Finnish news show, Nokia CEO Stephen Elop said the following:
"We have a number of options in the tablet computing space given the changing strategy that we have. For example, we could take advantage of Microsoft technology and software and build a Windows-oriented tablet, or we could do things with some of the other software assets that we have.
Our team right now is assessing what's the right tablet strategy for Nokia—how does that fit in? I will tell you this that's most important: There are now over 200 different tablets on the marketplace. Only one of them is doing really well. And my challenge to the team is: I don't want to be the 201st tablet on the market that you can't tell from all of the others.
We have to take a uniquely Nokia perspective, and so the teams are working very hard on something that would be differentiating relative to everything else that's going on in the market."
The reporter then said to Elop, "So you're not in a hurry," to which Elop replied, "We're always in a hurry to do the right Hp dv6000 battery,Hp pavilion dv5 battery things but we're mostly in a hurry to do the right thing." That's not a typo and, no, I have no idea what that's supposed to mean.

Google will let developers create Android apps for the living room

Google TV is nothing if not creative. Consider this recent patent filing, "Displaying Advertisements on Blank Television Output," from Simon Rowe, Google TV tech lead in the U.K. Rowe sees an opportunity to deliver advertising during the gap of one to ten seconds when channels are changing--advertising that capitalizes on channel surfing.
But Google TV has been too much, too soon--and it's a warning for any company trying to convert its success in one market to another. Google mastered rapid innovation in the cloud. The company's executives, product managers, and engineers talk about speed and innovation constantly. They love to cite the number of features added to the company's online services--more than 130 just to Google Docs last year, for example. But Google still has something to learn about speed limits, quality control, and the cat herding that's otherwise known as working with hardware makers, content partners, and developers. Speed matters, but so too does execution. And when it comes to delivering the ecosystem needed around hardware like Google TV, Google's approach of "beta now and improve it later" hasn't cut it.
Google so far has failed to deliver the software that promises to make Google TV really interesting: Its Android SDK for Google TV. The SDK is likely to be introduced at the company's developer conference in May, but it should have been ready Dell inspiron 5160 battery,Dell inspiron 600m battery in October last year when Google TV launched.
Incompleteness is a problem that goes beyond the Google TV-specific Android SDK and afflicts all of Android. As Global Equities Research analyst Trip Chowdhry observed in a recent research report, the view among some 150 Android developers that his firm surveyed is that "Honeycomb," the tablet-specific version of Android, is "dead on arrival" because it's buggy, incomplete, and plagued by a poor user interface.
What's more, Google TV depends on hardware and, so far, Google's hardware partners haven't managed to make up for the unfinished software. Sony has said sales of its interpretation of Google TV, known as Sony Internet TV, haven't been as good as anticipated. Logitech has said as much about its Google TV companion box, the Logitech Revue. "To date the [Google TV] platform has not met widespread consumer acceptance, and our sales of Logitech Revue and related products have been below our expectations," the company said in a financial report in February, though it expects the situation to get better as features and functionality are improved.
Browse through the Logitech Revue support forums and the dissatisfaction is evident. Consumers don't like half-baked products. Google essentially acknowledged this in March when it decided to delay releasing the open-source code for Android 3.0, Honeycomb. Google explained its decision by noting that it has more work to before its code is ready. It doesn't need poor hardware reviews killing the Android buzz.
Google also brought Google TV to market without enough supportive content providers. Either spooked that Google TV might encourage cable account cancellation or resentful that they weren't been courted with sufficient cash, ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC, and Viacom blocked Google TV users from using the Google TV Chrome browser to access the shows they already were making available on the Internet. Google appears to have learned something from this; the company is said to be ready to announce a streaming video rental service through YouTube, with partners that will provide content rather than obstruct it.
"Content owners were not happy with the Google TV approach and held back their content," said Al Hilwa, program director of applications development software for IDC, via email. "I suspect this is at least in part what is behind taking YouTube to a higher value video store with rentals, for example. Google will need to work out deals with content providers as well as improve the user experience and the application development model to get a device Dell inspiron 6400 battery,Dell inspiron 640m laptop battery like [Google TV] to the next level."
Small Living Room Design
Google may have revolutionized software development with its online approach. Its release-early-and-often approach has forced Adobe, Microsoft, and Mozilla, among others, to re-evaluate software development cycles that used Dell inspiron 9300 battery to drag on for years. But the search company has to think more carefully about balancing speed with the realities of marketing, particularly when physical products are involved.

Top Tips to Take Your iPhone to advanced level

Top Tips to Take Your iPhone to advanced level | wholesaleeshop.com.au

Dig a little deeper into the iPhone’s latest operating system, iOS 4.3 — available for the iPhone 3GS and theAT&T iPhone 4 — and there’s another layer to master. (Sorry, Android users, but that OS has so many versions and skins that a quick guide would be neither very quick nor much of a guide.) Beyond the realm of those basic iPhone controls is an advanced level of shortcuts and tweaks, some of which even hard-core users may not know exist.
DOUBLE-TAP Even while your iPhone is locked, you can access the audio controls by double-tapping on the home button when the lock screen appears. This saves you the time it takes to unlock your phone, open a music-playing app like iPod and get to the volume and track controls. This feature is not limited to Apple’s iPod app. If you are using Pandora, for example, the same technique will bring up its controls.
VOICE ACCESS If you press and hold the home button while the phone is locked, you can still access Voice Control to place a phone call (or FaceTime call) or get to any of the iPhone’s other voice commands.
TELL TIME Voice control can dial phone numbers (“dial 212-555-1212”) or people (“Dial Mom, mobile”), and it can control music (“Play music,” “Play artist Earth, Wind & Fire,” Play album “That’s the Way Hp dv2000 battery,Hp dv6500 battery of the World,” “Play more songs like this,” “Shuffle,” etc).
But did you know that it can also tell you what time it is? Say “What time is it?” and your phone will say the time back to you. It may sound silly, but it comes in handy if you are rushing and do not have the time or inclination to pull out your phone. (And who wears watches anymore?)
SHORTCUT TO SEARCH Swiping to the right from your first home screen pulls up the search window, where you can pull up any contacts, apps, e-mails, calendar appointments and media that have the word you are seeking.
But the search screen is also a shortcut to Google and Wikipedia. The last two search results for any entry are always “Search the Web” and “Search Wikipedia,” saving you the time it takes to open browsers or apps.
FORCE-QUIT APPS Double-tapping the home button while your phone is unlocked reveals a panel of most recently used apps. Swiping to the left moves through the apps in reverse chronological order to aid in quick app switching. This is advanced-beginner stuff.
But serious iPhone ninjas know that pressing and holding an app icon in this panel will cause minus signs to appear beside each app. Touching an app in this state forces it to shut down, a useful move if you have an app that is running in the background and causing trouble.
MUSIC SHORTCUTS Swipe that same previously used app screen to the right and you get another shortcut to music-playing controls. If you have the latest operating system, iOS 4.3, you will also see a button that will call up controls for AirPlay, Apple’s wireless audio Hp presario cq60 battery,Hp pavilion dv6 battery feature.
It is here that you also gain access to the screen rotation lock button, so you can turn on or off the iPhone’s ability to switch from portrait to landscape mode. Swipe once more to the right from this screen and the iPhone’s volume control appears.
VOLUME LOCK If you want to limit the iPhone’s volume (because it is being used by your children, for example), you can go into Settings, then iPod. Under “Volume Limit” you can adjust the maximum volume and set a code to lock the setting. This code can be different from the lock code for the entire phone, if you have set one of those.
SAVE WEB IMAGES When you’re looking at Web pages in Safari, tapping and holding any image will call up buttons that can save the image to your camera roll or copy it to the clipboard.
FIND WORDS Safari’s search bar will not only look up sites, it can also be used to find a word or phrase on a Web page. Type in your search term and scroll to the bottom of the results; the last result is always “On This Page”; tap that and you can see where that term appears on the page you are viewing.
MULTIPLE KEYBOARDS You can add keyboards in other languages. Go to Settings, then General, then Keyboard, then International Keyboards. Add Hp dv9000 battery,Hp mini 1000 battery as many keyboards as you like. The next time the keyboard appears, it will have a small button next to the space bar with a globe icon on it. Tapping that will cycle through the languages you have selected (the name of each language will appear on the space bar).

Tips for increasing Camera’s Battery

Ever since cameras started to sport built-in light meters, batteries have become necessary in order to make them portable. Indeed a camera can be operated completely mechanically, no need for batteries. Older cameras had a manual or mechanical setting that required no batteries for operation. You had no light meter to guide you but at least you could get the shot when your batteries were depleted. The film would be advanced and the shutter cocked manually by cranking a lever usually positioned above the right hand thumb.

Headline features of Apple ipad 2 prove it true successor

If you cast a cursory glance over the Apple devices, then you'll notice an amazing fact that each its new gadget comes featuring some upgrades over the earlier. In fact, it's the good-habit of soul-searching and positive response to customers' feedback, which has led Apple to the peaks of success. This California-monster launched its second generation tablet Apple ipad 2 on 2nd March 2011. Technological experts have termed this device as the true follow-up to original iPad, which was unleashed just before 1 years in April 2010.Dell xps m1330 battery,Dell studio 1555 battery,Hp pavilion dv4 battery
No doubt, there were some downsides in the first tablet. But in addition to users, Apple was also not unaware of these minus points. But thanks to Apple's farsighted vision, that while designing its Ipad 2, it has eliminated all these snags. The result is this, the next generation tablet has come in the market with more amplified version packed with more sophisticated details.
Here are mentioned some headline features of Apple ipad 2, which prove it true successor to its old sibling.
1. Approximately 33 % thinner and up to 15 % lighter in comparison to first iPad 2. Fitted with front as well as rear facing cameras, which let you take pictures and make video calls. 3. Equipped with a dual-core A5 processor, thus about 4 times more powerful than the A4 chip(Hp pavilion dv6000 battery,Hp presario cq40 battery,Hp pavilion dv6 battery) of original iPad 4. Choice of black and white color variants, in contrast to original iPad available in only black
But while engineering this device, Apple just not targeted to upgrade its predecessor. In addition, it had a well-devised strategy to give a tough challenge to other popular tablets existing in the market. It's the reason, that innovative features of Apple iPad 2 make it capable of outsmarting Motorola Xoom and Samsung Galaxy Tab without any doubt.
Apple ipad 2 can be attained from the stores of all the eminent networks including Orange, O2, Three, T-mobile, Vodafone, Virgin etc You can avail it at the pocket-friendly prices through striking Apple ipad 2 Deals like ipad 2 contract deals, ipad 2 pay as you go deals, ipad 2 SIM free deals and many more..
Before one buys a US$199.00 Tablet PC or even one for US $300.00 make sure that you look at the specifications. Some Tablet PCs come with slow processors, some as slow as 300 MHz with 128 MB of RAM. This will not give you the experience of an Apple iPhone or even some cellphones!
I have personally tested Tablet PCs 533 MHz CPU and 128 MB of RAM. Although this will pass for an eBook reader, it will not be the best choice to watch movies or for video streaming.

Top proper gadgets platform in Windows 7

If you are running Windows 7, and found that better not be able to view your order or a software process, it is important to you in a position that could lead to problems that solve the slowness. The good news is that there’s a trick that is used faster than Windows 7, which has similar activities, including programs to help solve your PC problems and verify that Windows can read files and can include all possibility that it needs to function. What I’ll explain in this tutorial how to use a USB drive to increase the amount of system memory, which allows you to read various files and run faster.
Unlike the sidebar, gadgets in Windows 7 are actually very useful. Unfortunately many people overlook this feature, instead going or a platform like Google Desktop. Having used both Google Desktop and Windows 7 Gadgets, I have to say that gadgets have some advantages. They feel much smoother than Google Desktop’s alternative. The selection is more limited, however, so let’s take a look at some great Windows 7 gadgets.
Three Useful Meters
best windows 7 gadgets
System monitors are nice to have on your desktop. They offer you the ability to keep an eye on your computer’s resources in real time, which lets you keep an eye out for any strange spikes in the usage of your computer’s resources. These spikes are usually no problem, but on occasion they can alert you to the existence of malware or simply a program that you installed and then later forgot about.
There are three great, related system monitor gadgets available for Windows 7. These gadgets are called CPU Meter, Network Meter, and Drive Meter. CPU meter monitors processor usage by displaying a graphic of processor usage and also status bars for each processor(Dell latitude d830 battery,Dell studio 1555 battery, laptop battery) core. This gadget also monitors RAM usage. The network monitor displays IP addresses and keeps track of both uploads and downloads. The drives monitor displays all connected hard drive and their capacity.
Of course, there are many system monitor gadgets you can choose from. What makes these things stand out from the crowd, however, is their interface. Each has a very clear, easy to understand aesthetic that conveys maximum information in minimal space. This aesthetic is the same across all three gadgets, as well (the gadgets are made by the same developer) so your desktop doesn’t look like a hodge-podge of unrelated gadgets.

Facebook and Twitter Explorer

windows 7 gadgets
Facebook and Twitter Explorer are, like the monitors above, two related gadgets created by the same developer. In this case, however, the gadgets deal with the most popular social networking websites.
The purpose of these two gadgets is the same. Both Facebook and Twitter(Dell latitude d630 battery) are frequently updated by users, and you may also add messages to both. Facebook and Twitter explorer act as simple desktop interfaces for this functionality. This means that you don’t have to have a browser window open in order to keep up to date on Facebook and Twitter updates.
The Twitter Explorer is functional enough that you may no longer have much need to visit the Twitter website. The Facebook Explorer gadget is also functional enough when it comes to status updates, but it doesn’t let you browse or add friends, play Facebook games, or access any of Facebook’s other pages.

SkypeGadget

best windows 7 gadgets
If you use Skype a great deal you may, like me, become a little bit frustrated with the program’s interface. I personally find Skype’s interface to be far larger than it really needs to be, and while the new ability to access Skype status through a Jumplist in Windows 7 is nice, it doesn’t address the fundamentally bloated interface.
Because of these complaints, I found SkypeGadget to be very useful. SkypeGadget serves as a more compact front end to Skype, making it possible to use Skype without having to deal with the normal Skype interface. SkypeGadget lets you view your contacts, make calls, and begin IM conversations with them. I love having the ability to view my contacts without a huge Skype window on my desktop.
My only complaint with the gadget is the inability to place Skype phone calls to “real” phone numbers due to the lack of a numberpad. Hopefully this will be addressed in a future release.

Tips for a refurbished MacBook

The smartest place to get a refurbished MacBook Pro is from Apple’s online refurbished store. Go tostore.apple.com, and then scroll down the page looking for Refurbished Mac toward the bottom of the left-hand sidebar.

Apple’s refurbished store has a rotating inventory, so you’ll see Macs added and Macs disappear -- if they don’t have exactly what you want, keep checking back. All those Macs come with the same one-year warranty as a brand-new Mac, and they’re checked thoroughly by Apple before being sold, so it’s a much safer investment than, say, eBay or Craigslist where you’re buying from another individual.

Sony has announced its first foray into the popular tablet PC market

The Japanese electronics maker Sony has announced its first foray into the popular tablet PC market, unveiling two new devices.
Sony has shown off a pair of tablets that will launch later this year. The S1 is little more than yet another Honeycomb iPad Tablet PC in a Sony-designed box, with a 9.4-inch widescreen display and a wedge-shaped case.
Way more interesting is the S2, a clamshell tablet with two 5.5-inch screens. Each section has a rounded back, making it look like a squashed burrito when closed. When open, you can use it as a tablet with a black stripe down the middle, or each screen can display different content, similar to the dual-screen Nintendo DS consoles.
And the gaming analogy is apt. The tablets will work with the PlayStation Suite platform, which is Sony’s way of putting PS software onto various devices. We got our first glimpse of it on the PlayStation phoneat the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona earlier this year. For more on the gaming aspects of the tablets, head over to our sister site Game|Life where Chris Kohler takes a look.
Both tablets will come with Wi-Fi and optionally 3G or 4G, and run Honeycomb. And both tablets will also pack infrared lamps to control Sony Bravia devices. They’ll also beam music and video to compatible devices via the DLNA wireless protocol, which is similar in concept to Apple’s AirPlay.
All in all, these look like pretty neat devices, especially if you are already heavily invested in Sony gear. Price and availability are both as yet unannounced, but if you pencil in “expensive” and “later this year” then you won’t go far wrong.
Lastly, a weird quote lifted from Sony’s press release. Talking about the OS, Google’s Android boss Andy Ruben apparently said the following: “Android 3.0 is a new version of the Android platform with a new holographic user interface that is designed from the ground up for devices with larger screen sizes, particularly tablets(Dell latitude d820 battery,Dell latitude d830 battery).” Holographic?
Niche segments
Analysts say that as the tablet PC market evolves over the next few years and the number of players grow, companies will have to find their niche.
"There will be specific segments that companies will cater to," said Mr Menon.
"Research in Motion (RIM) is big player in enterprise segment, Apple has captured the consumer market and is now targeting the enterprise sector," he added.
Mr Menon said that this is where Sony has a unique advantage.
Its gadgets like PlayStation already allow users in different parts of the world to interact and play games with other.
He said the electronics maker has a long standing partnership with Ericsson and together they could play a big role in the coming years.
"We estimate that by the year 2020 we will see 80bn gadgets connected to each other worldwide," he said.
"Given the expertise Sony has in consumer market and that of Ericsson in network Touch Screen Monitor operations, they could have a big impact in connecting the tablet segment," he added.
