Early Look At Samsung's Series 5 Chromebook | wholesale electroncs news

Samsung unveiled its first Chromebook, the Series 5, at Google I/O this week. It looks and feels a lot like a netbook, a category in which Samsung has been a major player, but Google and Samsung are positioning Chromebooks as an entirely new category of computing device.
Following are 10 shots of the Samsung Series 5, which comes black or white and is, quite frankly, a pretty impressively designed PC. Whether or not businesses embrace the Series 5 remains to be seen, but on the surface, at least, Samsung has come to the table with a Chromebook that can at least give companies something to think about when planning their next PC refresh.

Samsung's Series 5 Chromebook is priced at $429 and includes a 12.1-inch display, solid state drive, 8-hour battery life, full-size keyboard, built-in Wi-Fi and 3G. Samsung decided to offer it in both black and white right out of the gate, perhaps aware of the feeding frenzy that has accompanied Apple's recent introduction of the white iPhone 4, which triggered a brawl in a Beijing store this week.

Under the hood is Chrome OS, and Google is putting the Chrome brand on all Chromebooks. Will this become a counterpart to "Intel Inside"?
Samsung Series 5 Chromebook packs a lot of computing punch into a small package. It's fast, secure and stylish, and is just as suitable for home users as it is for road warriors, according to Google and Samsung.
Users won't have to deal with the tiny chiclet keyboards found in many netbooks: The Series 5 includes a full-size keyboard as well as an oversized multi-touch trackpad for easy navigation. Samsung's inaugural Chromebook is powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo N570 1.66-Ghz processor.

How to To fully discharge the HP laptop battery pack

Disabling Hibernation To fully discharge the battery pack, disable Hibernation temporarily. If you do not use your laptop for extended periods of time (a week or more), remove the Hp pavilion dv6 laptop  battery pack from the laptop.
Write down the 3 settings in the Plugged In column and the settings in the Running on Batteries column, so you can reset them after calibration. settings in the Running on Batteries column, so you can reset them after calibration.
1.Select the drop-down lists and set all 6 options in both columns to Never.
2.Select the OK button.
3.Disconnect the notebook from the external power source, but do not turn off the notebook.
4.Run the notebook on battery power until the battery pack is fully discharged. The battery light begins to blink when the battery pack has discharged to a low-battery condition. When the Dell studio 1555 batteryHp pavilion dv5 battery pack is fully discharged, the power/Standby light turns off and the notebook shuts down.
5.Disconnect any peripherals, for example if you use a USB flash memory stick, copy any files you need and then unplug it. This can give an extra 20 minutes or so of use.
6.Do not connect PCMCIA cards (PC cards) unless you need to use them. Remove them when not needed.
7.Change the Control Panel - Alarm settings to their absolute minimum (e.g. four percent). This can gain an extra ten minutes of use (but the notebook may cut out suddenly if you have a degraded battery).
8.Do not access a CD more than required. If possible copy or install any software you might need from the CD onto the hard disk and then remove the CD.
Leaving a battery in a laptop while using an electrical outlet for long periods of time will keep the battery in a constant state of charging up and that will reduce the life cycle of the battery.
Did you know that detaching your main laptop batteries from your laptop would increase your laptop's battery life up to 75%? Our experience and testing have shown that even when you are plugged in with your laptop ac adapter and your battery is fully charged, the laptop will still use the laptop battery resources in small increments. This will put unnecessary charge cycles to your battery. Since typical li-ion laptop batteries have 375 charge cycles, having a fully charged battery inserted will put unnecessary charge cycles. The downside to removing your laptop battery maybe a loss of power when the ac adapter is accidentally unplugged or when there is a power outage.

Battery Technology for Chasing batteries to storage

Batteries—in other words, electrochemical storage—have a range of useful applications on the grid, but their performance, cost-effectiveness and siting requirements must be refined, according to a recent paper by researchers at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratorybatteries in recycling bin
That refinement process is likely to require more utility-based demonstration projects, researchers said.
Battery applications such as power reliability, frequency regulation, renewable energy integration and energy management must be honed via further basic and applied research, particularly in utility demonstration projects, researchers said in a recent paper.
"While there has been increased interest and attempts to improve stationary storage, investment in the area is still limited in comparison with that of Li-ion batteries for vehicle applications," concluded Gary Yang, lead author of "Electrochemical Storage for Green Grid," and a lab fellow at PNNL. (The paper was published in Chemical Reviews in March. Subscription required.)
"Currently," Yang pointed out, "there are only a few government-funded programs worldwide with limited funding for developing electricity storage technologies for stationary applications."
Hurdles include lack of public and political awareness, current regulatory approaches Dell studio 1535 battery and government support, Yang suggested.
On the "bright side" (my phrase):
  • The Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 authorized $50 million annually for a decade for basic research; $80 million annually for a decade for applied research and $100 million annually for demonstration projects.
  • The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 funded 16 storage demonstration projects with $185 million in federal monies and $585 million in private sector investment.
  • China and various European nations are also investing and conducting stationary storage research and development.
Aside from cost and performance, advances are needed in chemistries, materials, cell/stack design and system engineering, Yang and his co-authors said.
Perhaps the most promising Hp 484170-001 battery,Hp dv6000 battery categories are redox flow, Na-beta alumina membrane, certain Li-ion chemistries and lead-carbon technologies, according to the paper.
Readers, one issue that arises here is that research and development (R&D) on battery technologies could mean greater choices for the myriad grid applications that will evolve over coming decades. Failure to do so could mean fewer choices. The work is expensive and, in my opinion, the cost-share between taxpayer and private sector is healthy.
This is a political issue, a budget issue and a technology issue that won't go away. Cynics may suggest that researchers naturally will propose more research. Private sector entities with an interest in moving battery technologies to market—and utilities that might benefit—clearly have an interest in overcoming hurdles. The public may eventually benefit, but broad support for utility-scale battery technology may be difficult to achieve, given the somewhat arcane nature of the pros and cons.

Top proper gadgets platform in Windows 7

If you are running Windows 7, and found that better not be able to view your order or a software process, it is important to you in a position that could lead to problems that solve the slowness. The good news is that there’s a trick that is used faster than Windows 7, which has similar activities, including programs to help solve your PC problems and verify that Windows can read files and can include all possibility that it needs to function. What I’ll explain in this tutorial how to use a USB drive to increase the amount of system memory, which allows you to read various files and run faster.
Unlike the sidebar, gadgets in Windows 7 are actually very useful. Unfortunately many people overlook this feature, instead going or a platform like Google Desktop. Having used both Google Desktop and Windows 7 Gadgets, I have to say that gadgets have some advantages. They feel much smoother than Google Desktop’s alternative. The selection is more limited, however, so let’s take a look at some great Windows 7 gadgets.
Three Useful Meters
best windows 7 gadgets
System monitors are nice to have on your desktop. They offer you the ability to keep an eye on your computer’s resources in real time, which lets you keep an eye out for any strange spikes in the usage of your computer’s resources. These spikes are usually no problem, but on occasion they can alert you to the existence of malware or simply a program that you installed and then later forgot about.
There are three great, related system monitor gadgets available for Windows 7. These gadgets are called CPU Meter, Network Meter, and Drive Meter. CPU meter monitors processor usage by displaying a graphic of processor usage and also status bars for each processor(Dell latitude d830 battery,Dell studio 1555 battery, laptop battery) core. This gadget also monitors RAM usage. The network monitor displays IP addresses and keeps track of both uploads and downloads. The drives monitor displays all connected hard drive and their capacity.
Of course, there are many system monitor gadgets you can choose from. What makes these things stand out from the crowd, however, is their interface. Each has a very clear, easy to understand aesthetic that conveys maximum information in minimal space. This aesthetic is the same across all three gadgets, as well (the gadgets are made by the same developer) so your desktop doesn’t look like a hodge-podge of unrelated gadgets.

Facebook and Twitter Explorer

windows 7 gadgets
Facebook and Twitter Explorer are, like the monitors above, two related gadgets created by the same developer. In this case, however, the gadgets deal with the most popular social networking websites.
The purpose of these two gadgets is the same. Both Facebook and Twitter(Dell latitude d630 battery) are frequently updated by users, and you may also add messages to both. Facebook and Twitter explorer act as simple desktop interfaces for this functionality. This means that you don’t have to have a browser window open in order to keep up to date on Facebook and Twitter updates.
The Twitter Explorer is functional enough that you may no longer have much need to visit the Twitter website. The Facebook Explorer gadget is also functional enough when it comes to status updates, but it doesn’t let you browse or add friends, play Facebook games, or access any of Facebook’s other pages.

SkypeGadget

best windows 7 gadgets
If you use Skype a great deal you may, like me, become a little bit frustrated with the program’s interface. I personally find Skype’s interface to be far larger than it really needs to be, and while the new ability to access Skype status through a Jumplist in Windows 7 is nice, it doesn’t address the fundamentally bloated interface.
Because of these complaints, I found SkypeGadget to be very useful. SkypeGadget serves as a more compact front end to Skype, making it possible to use Skype without having to deal with the normal Skype interface. SkypeGadget lets you view your contacts, make calls, and begin IM conversations with them. I love having the ability to view my contacts without a huge Skype window on my desktop.
My only complaint with the gadget is the inability to place Skype phone calls to “real” phone numbers due to the lack of a numberpad. Hopefully this will be addressed in a future release.

Sony has announced its first foray into the popular tablet PC market

The Japanese electronics maker Sony has announced its first foray into the popular tablet PC market, unveiling two new devices.
Sony has shown off a pair of tablets that will launch later this year. The S1 is little more than yet another Honeycomb iPad Tablet PC in a Sony-designed box, with a 9.4-inch widescreen display and a wedge-shaped case.
Way more interesting is the S2, a clamshell tablet with two 5.5-inch screens. Each section has a rounded back, making it look like a squashed burrito when closed. When open, you can use it as a tablet with a black stripe down the middle, or each screen can display different content, similar to the dual-screen Nintendo DS consoles.
And the gaming analogy is apt. The tablets will work with the PlayStation Suite platform, which is Sony’s way of putting PS software onto various devices. We got our first glimpse of it on the PlayStation phoneat the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona earlier this year. For more on the gaming aspects of the tablets, head over to our sister site Game|Life where Chris Kohler takes a look.
Both tablets will come with Wi-Fi and optionally 3G or 4G, and run Honeycomb. And both tablets will also pack infrared lamps to control Sony Bravia devices. They’ll also beam music and video to compatible devices via the DLNA wireless protocol, which is similar in concept to Apple’s AirPlay.
All in all, these look like pretty neat devices, especially if you are already heavily invested in Sony gear. Price and availability are both as yet unannounced, but if you pencil in “expensive” and “later this year” then you won’t go far wrong.
Lastly, a weird quote lifted from Sony’s press release. Talking about the OS, Google’s Android boss Andy Ruben apparently said the following: “Android 3.0 is a new version of the Android platform with a new holographic user interface that is designed from the ground up for devices with larger screen sizes, particularly tablets(Dell latitude d820 battery,Dell latitude d830 battery).” Holographic?
Niche segments
Analysts say that as the tablet PC market evolves over the next few years and the number of players grow, companies will have to find their niche.
"There will be specific segments that companies will cater to," said Mr Menon.
"Research in Motion (RIM) is big player in enterprise segment, Apple has captured the consumer market and is now targeting the enterprise sector," he added.
Mr Menon said that this is where Sony has a unique advantage.
Its gadgets like PlayStation already allow users in different parts of the world to interact and play games with other.
He said the electronics maker has a long standing partnership with Ericsson and together they could play a big role in the coming years.
"We estimate that by the year 2020 we will see 80bn gadgets connected to each other worldwide," he said.
"Given the expertise Sony has in consumer market and that of Ericsson in network Touch Screen Monitor operations, they could have a big impact in connecting the tablet segment," he added.

Reserve Orders Also Taken - iPad 2 Rolling Out April 17th

Demand for the iPad 2 far outweighed stock levels when it first saw light of day, and while Apple’s own online store quoted 4-5 week delivery times, that has since been reduced to 2-3 weeks. This has no doubt pleased those that have been waiting for their tablet to arrive.
However there are other outlets to purchase the touchscreen slate, one being Best Buy. While rumors recently suspected a “blacklisting” for the retailers shipment of any more iPad 2′s over a dispute with sales, a leaked memo shows that this may well not be the case.
As Apple Insider commented, Best Buy became one of the main outlet partners for the first and second gen iPad.
Now an internal memo has leaked Dell vostro 1510 battery,Dell xps m1330 battery information about the retailers plans for a promotional exercise for the iPad 2 starting on April 17. Reservation systems have been disabled but will be fired back up and continue for at least a week once the promotional period has stopped. According to a report by Engadget, the leaked internal memo said, “the iPad 2 will be featured on the front cover of the April 17 ad and because of this, the reserve order system will be turned back on on Sunday.”
As Best Buy state any reserve orders will take priority once the stores receive their shipments. The memo also stated, “the reserve order system will be turned on for the entire week of the ad, possibly longer.” There is instruction to employees not to hold units for customers for periods longer than 48 hours.
Stores are informed that Best Buy’s “Corporate Support Teams” are fully aware that sales demand is highly likely to exceed outlets stock levels. Therefore it is imperative that current reservations and new reservations are dealt with effectively to ensure satisfactory customer care.B-pad7b 2818 Android Tablet PC
Retail outlets are warned not to send buyers to other stores that may be showing stock, as these units are likely reserved, any store pick up Hp nc8430 battery,Hp pavilion dv6000 batteryfacilities will stay unavailable. Employees however will be able to purchase an iPad 2.
Josh Ong from AppleInsider is reporting that a leaked internal memo indicates that Best Buy is planning a promotion push for the iPad 2. It is also thought the retailer will restart taking reserve orders for the device for at least a week after the sales promotion.
The memo which was originally leaked by Engadget states the promotion will begin on April 17, and ordering system for reserving the iPad 2 will also be switched back on. It is thought that some stores will have a minimum of three iPad 2s.
People who have an iPad 2 already reserved still get priority over any iPad 2 stocks that the company has, and as soon as any remaining stock has sold the stores will begin taking reserve orders for the tablet PC. The memo states that reserved units will not be held for longer than 48 hours and also staff at Best Buy are now allowed to buy an iPad 2.

Microsoft executes the specified command fire tablet computer

In three days after its launch, Apple sold 500,000 units of its iPad 2 tablet computer. To most people, that number would seem impressive. But Microsoft's Craig Mundie is not most people.
In a recent interview with Australia's Sydney Morning Herald, Microsoft global chief research and strategy officer Craig Mundie had this to say about what appears to be a rapidly emerging tablet market:
"I don't know whether the big screen tablet pad category is going to remain with us or not... Personally I don't know whether that space will be a persistent one or not."

Tablet Computers are Just a Fad

Mundie stopped short of using the actual term "fad", but there's no escaping his overall impression of the tablet, or slate computer Hp dv6000 batteries: it may not be a long-term mainstay in the tech market.
Mundie's position would make him quite the exception in this industry. After all, just about everyone -- including Research in Motion (RIM), Dell, and Motorola -- are releasing their own versions of the iPad right now. And why not? If any one of those firms can accumulate even a fraction of the 42 million iPads projected to sell between the item's original launch and the end of 2011, then they will have achieved considerable success.
Many experts stunned by the Mundie comments have pointed out Microsoft founder Bill Gates' own proclamation ten years ago that tablets are "virtually without limits" in terms of their potential growth and capabilities.
Good: Entry Level aPads come with processor speeds of less than 533Mhz, 128 MB RAM and 2 GB Internal Hard Drive Excellent for reading ebooks. Most Tablets Pcs in this catergory will have Android OS 1.5 - 1.9.The good news here is that the price point is slightly less than the OEM ebook readers.
Better: This category of M-pad7a aPads come with processor speeds from 533MHz to 900 Mhz, 256MB RAM and and 2 GB Internal Hard Drive. Excellent for internet browsing, watching movies on Youtube and note taking.Best: These M-pad7a aPads are usually 10 inch, but there are some powerful 7'apads out there that compete with the Apple iPads. Any iPad with at least 1GHz (1024MHz), 512 MB RAM, 4 GB internal drive with Android 2.1 or higher are considered the ones to get if you are a serious mutlimedia user. Watching HD movies is a wonderful experience on these devices.
I did not put any price points for these classifications because the cost will always drop as new products are released.
On a final note, it is important to determine your needs before selecting the right desktop, laptop or tablet pc. Android aPads, like the iPad or any other tablet will not support all the applications out there, but it is increasing getting better by the day.

No Room Between Smartphones and Laptops

So, what does Mundie think is a better product than the tablet? Simply put, Mundie believes either smartphones or laptops will fair better. The Microsoft exec just doesn't think there's much room between these two well-established tech items to put a tablet PC at a better advantage.
Beyond that, Mundie had some rather abstract and ambiguous tech predictions for us, telling the Herald: "I believe the successor to the desktop is the room, that instead of thinking Hp dv2000 laptop battery that the computer is just something on the desk that you go and sit in front of [in the] future, basically the whole room is the computer and you go in it."
