Mac users attempt to simultaneously download

We are very excited to be launching Mac OS Lion tomorrow," Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer told reporters and analysts during a conference call on Tuesday, when discussing his company's most-recent financial results.
If you plan to install "Here, kitty, kitty, kitty" on Wednesday, do remember to first upgrade Snow Leopard to version 10.6.8. And do let us know if your download helped grind the Mac App Store to a halt as millions of Mac users attempt to simultaneously download what's sure to be a hefty package.

During the call, Oppenheimer also alluded to what he called a "future product transition" in response to a question about why he was projecting less than expected – and less than seasonal – revenues for Apple's next fiscal quarter, ending in September.
"We have a lot going on in the fall, with the introduction of iOS 5 and iCloud. We also have a future product transition that we're not going to talk about today," he said with emphasis, "and these things will impact our September quarter."
With his emphatic not, Oppenheimer shut the door on any discussion as to what that "transition" might be. One can assume, however, that the oft-rumored iPhone 5 is the speculative front-runner.
But speculation as to whether the iPhone 5 will be joined by a lower-priced sibling may have been given a bit of juice when one analyst reminded Apple COO Tim Cook, also on the call, that recent surveys have shown that the iPhone lost market share year-on-year in the UK, Germany, France, and Japan, and that many market projections show that sales of smartphones over $300 are going to grow "a lot slower" than less-expensive phones worldwide.
"Share gain is important," Cook admitted. "Anywhere where we're going the opposite way, we're not happy and you can bet that we're working hard to change that."

iPhone 4 demoted?

But "working hard" does not necessarily mean that engineers are currently slaving away in some Cupertinian skunk works to fashion a less-expensive sibling for the soon-to-be-top-of-the-line iPhone 5.

"In terms of playing at different price points," Cook said, "we do offer the 3GS, as an example, today. In the US it's $49 with a contract." Pricing varies in different markets, he said, but noted that the 3GS is "clearly in a distinctly different price than the iPhone 4 is."
Well, in a different price point today. Come the "future product transition", the iPhone 4 may step into the iPhone 3GS's runner-up status. Or it may simply disappear, and be replaced by the ever-elusive "iPhone nano" – or some such – that keep being resurrected by rumoristas.
Cook also attempted to convince his listeners that price point targets aren't the main engine of Apple's product development. "Our philosophy is the same that it has always been," he said. "We will only make products that we're proud of, that are the best in the world. And if we can do that, and the price is lower, then we're great with that."
As an example, Cook gave the iPod shuffle. "It started at a different price point, but it's now at $49. That's because it's a product that we're very proud of."
He was, however, straightforward enough to admit that although products are important, so is marketing. "It's up to us to convince people to maybe spend a little more for a materially better experience and product – and we've seen that people will do that if the product is great and if it is messaged appropriately," he said. "And we've got a lot of experience in both of those areas."

Lenovo is inching closer to taking the second spot from Dell

Lenovo nudged out Acer to become the world's third-largest PC maker, and is inching closer to taking the second spot from Dell, according to IDC research released on Wednesday.
Lenovo benefitted from stable PC growth in Asia-Pacific and an expansion of its distribution channel in more regions, IDC said. Acer tumbled into fourth place after a management shakeup ousted Gianfranco Lanci as the company's CEO in March and after mismanagement of inventory in the company's distribution channel in Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Lenovo's shipments grew by 22.9 percent during the second quarter, which bucked the slower-than-expected PC growth during the quarter, according to IDC. Worldwide PC shipments totaled 84.4 million units during the second quarter, growing by just 2.6 percent compared to the year-ago quarter, IDC said. Hewlett-Packard and Dell were the world's top two PC makers.
Overall PC shipments grew at a slow pace due to interest in tablets and weakened spending by consumers and businesses as a result of uncertain economic conditions, said Jay Chou, senior research analyst at IDC.
The U.S. and Western Europe experienced weak PC demand, and netbook shipments continued to drop in the U.S. during the second quarter due to tablets, IDC said. PC shipments grew in Asia-Pacific, up over 12 percent.

"Product refreshes and promotions in the second half of the year as well as easier year-ago data should boost growth in the second half of the year," Chou said.
Lenovo's worldwide PC shipments totaled 10.3 million units during the quarter, while Acer's shipments totaled 9.2 million units, declining by 10.1 percent. Lenovo's market share during the quarter was 12.2 percent, closing in on Dell, which maintained a 12.9 percent market share. Dell shipped 10.9 million units, growing by 2.8 percent. HP held an 18.1 percent market share, with shipments totaling 15.2 million units during the second quarter, growing by 3 percent.

HP and Dell are seen as important vehicles to improve storage utilisation

After going on the acquisition path over the last three years Dell has carved a greater niche for itself in the data management arena, and it was keen to show off its industry position at this week's Dell Storage Forum in Orlando, attended by over 1,000 partners and customers.
At the same time, HP was holding its user conference in Las Vegas, where it  announced a new range of data storage products.
Last year HP acquired networking firm 3Com for $2.7 billion and cloud storage management company 3Par for $2.35 billion, a company which Dell was rumoured to be interested in. Over the last three years Dell has acquired EqualLogic, Perot Systems, Exanet, Ocarina Networks, and Scalent, with Compellent being added to the bunch for $940 million earlier this year.
Other Business News:

All the companies aquired by HP and Dell are seen as important vehicles to improve storage utilisation, balance data workloads and automate storage tiering at companies, allowing them to improve productivity and more efficiently operate their storage networks.
Darren Thomas, vice president and general manager of Dell Storage, said: "It's not about the machines anymore, it's about the data, and the challenge for the industry is data lifecycle management."
Thomas told delegates he expected that by 2020, every man, woman and child who had ever lived on the planet would have been responsible for generating the equivalent of 2 terabytes of data each, a challenge for companies as "they are responsible for managing 80 percent of what is generated".
He said that before any IT upgrades were ever completed at firms, the amount of data would always double, which is why Dell was now focusing on its "Fluid Data" strategy.
Thomas said Fluid Data would mean bringing out storage products that made data "dynamic" - that it went where it needed to go automatically for optimum performance without having to deploy new hardware.
That said, Thomas used his keynote to launch a range of new hardware storage systems that helped demonstrate how Dell was integrating the technologies it has aquired over the last three years.
The new Dell EqualLogic FS7500 box uses Dell blade technology and EqualLogic technology to serve network attached storage (NAS) and unified storage markets. Dell claims it provides "up to 10 times more file share scalability than legacy unified storage offerings".

Early Look At Samsung's Series 5 Chromebook | wholesale electroncs news

Samsung unveiled its first Chromebook, the Series 5, at Google I/O this week. It looks and feels a lot like a netbook, a category in which Samsung has been a major player, but Google and Samsung are positioning Chromebooks as an entirely new category of computing device.
Following are 10 shots of the Samsung Series 5, which comes black or white and is, quite frankly, a pretty impressively designed PC. Whether or not businesses embrace the Series 5 remains to be seen, but on the surface, at least, Samsung has come to the table with a Chromebook that can at least give companies something to think about when planning their next PC refresh.

Samsung's Series 5 Chromebook is priced at $429 and includes a 12.1-inch display, solid state drive, 8-hour battery life, full-size keyboard, built-in Wi-Fi and 3G. Samsung decided to offer it in both black and white right out of the gate, perhaps aware of the feeding frenzy that has accompanied Apple's recent introduction of the white iPhone 4, which triggered a brawl in a Beijing store this week.

Under the hood is Chrome OS, and Google is putting the Chrome brand on all Chromebooks. Will this become a counterpart to "Intel Inside"?
Samsung Series 5 Chromebook packs a lot of computing punch into a small package. It's fast, secure and stylish, and is just as suitable for home users as it is for road warriors, according to Google and Samsung.
Users won't have to deal with the tiny chiclet keyboards found in many netbooks: The Series 5 includes a full-size keyboard as well as an oversized multi-touch trackpad for easy navigation. Samsung's inaugural Chromebook is powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo N570 1.66-Ghz processor.

Top battery cares may help you save money

With the Libyan crisis forcing the price of petrol to potentially record highs, the cost of driving has increased exponentially and even caused many to stop driving all together. As a result, any savings are gratefully received by the driving community and proper battery maintenance is an easy way for motorists to avoid the expense, and inconvenience, of premature Ibm thinkpad t60 battery failure, says CTEK.
The cost of all goods is soaring with the present economic status of the entire world, and motoring is no exception.
It has been reported that petrol in the UK could reach as much as £1.50 per gallon by the end of August if prices continue to rise at their current rate. Battery Protection, however, is one way motorists can save money in the long-term.
A regular battery charge from a 12VHp pavilion dv6000 batteries Charger as part of a regular maintenance routine could extend battery life by as much as 300%, saving consumers up to £200.00 over the extended lifespan of the battery
Jan-Ulf Söderberg of CTEK commented: "Including a battery charge in a maintenance routine can save motorists a fortune if done regularly. By using a Smart Battery Charger to protect and maintain batteries, motorists can keep their batteries healthy and avoid expensive replacement costs. Here at CTEK we are doing everything we can to highlight this to motorists in an effort to dramatically reduce the amount of money that is needlessly spent each year on replacementSony vgp-bps2a battery."
Battery charging has traditionally been seen as a distress activity but with the technology available from CTEK it can become a regular service routine with no disruption to other maintenance activities and the benefits in vehicle reliability and cost saving mean that investing in the right equipment will give a payback in weeks.
Jan continued: "The price of keeping a car on the road and well maintained has never been so expensive. With this unlikely to change drastically in the coming months, drivers should contemplate looking after the internal workings of their vehicles to save money in the long run."
Dell vostro 1510 batteryLaptop batteries are crucial when working on the road. To get maximum performance from your laptop batteries, fully optimize the laptop's power management features prior to use. However, there is a trade off when setting your laptop power management. You will achieve better power conservation in exchange for lesser computing performance. The power management system conserves the laptop battery power by setting the processor to run at a slower speed, dimming the laptop screen, slowing down the hard drive when it's not in use and causing the machine to go into sleep or suspend mode when it is inactive. Your laptop user's guide will provide information relating to specific power management features.

Sony continues to inch toward a full two weeks of lost service for PlayStation Network

As Sony continues to inch toward a full two weeks of lost service for PlayStation Network and Qrirocity customers, there is more and more pressure on the company to address the growing numbers of questions being lobbed in its direction. The first steps were taken earlier this week toward addressing the demands of the 77 million users who have had their personal data stolen and been left without service since last Wednesday, in the form of a Sony-penned Q&A. Today brings part two of that Q&A, presumably with more to come given Dell xps m1330 battery,Dell inspiron 1300 battery that today’s answers serve to raise additional questions.
The key points discussed in Patrick Seybold’s PlayStation Blog post relate to how each user’s game & community data has been affected by the outage (other than being currently inaccessible, it hasn’t) and what the company’s plans are moving forward, after service is restored. This second point is obviously much more rooted in the realm of the theoretical at this point, as there’s no restored service to speak of yet, and the length of time between now and when that happens will probably play a role in any decisions.
PlayStation Network is home to a number of massively multiplayer online role-playing games, such as the recently released DC Universe Online. Since these types of games involve subscriptions that aren’t associated with or paid to PlayStation Network, Seybold defers to a statement from Sony Online Entertainment:
“We apologize for any inconvenience players may have experienced as a result of the recent service interruption. As a global leader in online gaming, SOE is committed to delivering stable and entertaining games for players of all ages. To thank players for their patience, we will be hosting special events across our game portfolio. We are also working Hp pavilion dv6000 battery,Hp dv8000 batteries on a ‘make good’ plan for players of the PS3 versions of DC Universe Online and Free Realms. Details will be available soon on the individual game websites and forums.”
As for the PlayStation Network, the basic service allowing gamers to connect and play together online is completely free, in contrast to Microsoft‘s subscription-based Xbox Live. PS3 owners can subscribe to the PS Plus program for added benefits, and those people are simply out of luck right now. There’s also an argument that the PS3′s “free online play” offering is a selling point that motivates consumers to choose the console over the Xbox 360. Then there’s Qrirocity, which is entirely subscription-based.

Top proper gadgets platform in Windows 7

If you are running Windows 7, and found that better not be able to view your order or a software process, it is important to you in a position that could lead to problems that solve the slowness. The good news is that there’s a trick that is used faster than Windows 7, which has similar activities, including programs to help solve your PC problems and verify that Windows can read files and can include all possibility that it needs to function. What I’ll explain in this tutorial how to use a USB drive to increase the amount of system memory, which allows you to read various files and run faster.
Unlike the sidebar, gadgets in Windows 7 are actually very useful. Unfortunately many people overlook this feature, instead going or a platform like Google Desktop. Having used both Google Desktop and Windows 7 Gadgets, I have to say that gadgets have some advantages. They feel much smoother than Google Desktop’s alternative. The selection is more limited, however, so let’s take a look at some great Windows 7 gadgets.
Three Useful Meters
best windows 7 gadgets
System monitors are nice to have on your desktop. They offer you the ability to keep an eye on your computer’s resources in real time, which lets you keep an eye out for any strange spikes in the usage of your computer’s resources. These spikes are usually no problem, but on occasion they can alert you to the existence of malware or simply a program that you installed and then later forgot about.
There are three great, related system monitor gadgets available for Windows 7. These gadgets are called CPU Meter, Network Meter, and Drive Meter. CPU meter monitors processor usage by displaying a graphic of processor usage and also status bars for each processor(Dell latitude d830 battery,Dell studio 1555 battery, laptop battery) core. This gadget also monitors RAM usage. The network monitor displays IP addresses and keeps track of both uploads and downloads. The drives monitor displays all connected hard drive and their capacity.
Of course, there are many system monitor gadgets you can choose from. What makes these things stand out from the crowd, however, is their interface. Each has a very clear, easy to understand aesthetic that conveys maximum information in minimal space. This aesthetic is the same across all three gadgets, as well (the gadgets are made by the same developer) so your desktop doesn’t look like a hodge-podge of unrelated gadgets.

Facebook and Twitter Explorer

windows 7 gadgets
Facebook and Twitter Explorer are, like the monitors above, two related gadgets created by the same developer. In this case, however, the gadgets deal with the most popular social networking websites.
The purpose of these two gadgets is the same. Both Facebook and Twitter(Dell latitude d630 battery) are frequently updated by users, and you may also add messages to both. Facebook and Twitter explorer act as simple desktop interfaces for this functionality. This means that you don’t have to have a browser window open in order to keep up to date on Facebook and Twitter updates.
The Twitter Explorer is functional enough that you may no longer have much need to visit the Twitter website. The Facebook Explorer gadget is also functional enough when it comes to status updates, but it doesn’t let you browse or add friends, play Facebook games, or access any of Facebook’s other pages.

SkypeGadget

best windows 7 gadgets
If you use Skype a great deal you may, like me, become a little bit frustrated with the program’s interface. I personally find Skype’s interface to be far larger than it really needs to be, and while the new ability to access Skype status through a Jumplist in Windows 7 is nice, it doesn’t address the fundamentally bloated interface.
Because of these complaints, I found SkypeGadget to be very useful. SkypeGadget serves as a more compact front end to Skype, making it possible to use Skype without having to deal with the normal Skype interface. SkypeGadget lets you view your contacts, make calls, and begin IM conversations with them. I love having the ability to view my contacts without a huge Skype window on my desktop.
My only complaint with the gadget is the inability to place Skype phone calls to “real” phone numbers due to the lack of a numberpad. Hopefully this will be addressed in a future release.
