How to Extend your iPhone’s battery life in seconds by www.bestlaptopbattery.co.uk

On a good day I used to be able to count on getting about a day’s worth of use out of a fully charged iPhone 4. I sort of thought that was the norm until I recently read an article by David Gewirtz, that detailed a tip on improving your iPhone’s battery life.

It turns out that changing the duration of how often your iPhone fetches new data can take your iPhone’s battery life from days to weeks.

Batteries are a temporary source of energy and power

When the Long Island Power Authority said last summer that it was going to need new power capacity in the next few years, most people assumed that meant new generating stations or new transmission cables. But of the 16 companies that submitted proposals, one, AES Energy Storage, took an entirely different tack: it proposed batteries.

Dell laptop battery barely holds a charge

It’s a common problem – your shiny new laptop isn’t looking so shiny or new anymore, and what’s that? The battery barely holds a charge now? Ugh. I’m sceptical of Leyden Energy’s claims, but would give their batteries a shot.

They claim their lithium-ion, 440watt hours per liter Dell inspiron 1300 battery don’t depreciate for at least three years (supposedly normal ones start losing their charge around the 18-month-mark), and as they come with a three-year warranty, that’s something you can obviously take them to fault with if you discover it’s all bullshit.

Tops tips help you plug your batteries in

You've got tech questions, we've found the answers. We've asked the tech experts at the wholesaleeshop.com.au to help you make the most of your technology, answering your thorniest tech questions. So if you're wondering what to buy, how to plug it in, or how to fix it, the wholesaleeshop.com.au can help.
This week, wholesaleeshop.com.au agent James Perry answers YOUR questions.
"My iPhone battery is a year and a half old. It has suddenly started running down in half a day. I know that it might simply have "gone bad," but I'd like to know about other possibilities. I'm hooked to a network that continually reaches for my Outlook items -- is that it?"
Sometimes batteries do just go bad -- and a good tip to keep them working longer is to allow them to go almost all the way down before charging them back up.
But more often than not, with most modern smartphones it’s the background applications that cause  drain part way through the day. Having Outlook always scanning for your email might keep you in the loop, but it’s a drain on the battery life; that means your phone is always on -- even when the screen is off its still sending and receiving information.
An easy fix is to have it just scan for new messages each time you open the application up. Another quick tip would be to keep the Wi-Fi adapter turned off -- it’s another item that is always on and can affect battery life. And most phones that run 3G and 4G fast enough on those networks.
The reason there isn’t an operating system today that's completely virus-free is because there are too many outside factors that can cause an infection in a computer. Most infections come not from intrinsic security flaws in the OS but from the user mistyping a website in their browser, downloading "music" or "movies" for free with programs like Limewire or Bearshare, or clicking on that popup that just seems too good to leave alone.
Also, we must understand that viruses are treated like a blanket term for anything that causes your computer to act abnormally. In fact, for most modern Operating Systems like Windows 7 it’s very hard to get a virus on the computer, but it is very easy to get Malware, Spyware, and Rougeware on your PC.
And if the computer is running a Proper Antivirus and Anti Spyware program (most programs cover both), keeping your Operating System updates up to date, and practicing some safe Internet habits will keep your computer virus free for a long time..
"I have a PC and laptop (from 2005) and both have slowed down to almost nothing. They were both great units when they were working. Is there anything I can do to get them back to their original running speed? New hard drive, perhaps?"
We're all trying to get the most out of our computers … and who wants to buy a new one every couple of years?
What kills the speed of most computers, especially older ones, is the lack of memory. And don't get that confused with your hard drive. RAM (short for random access memory) is a small amount of memory for short term storage and computation; it directly affects the speed in your computer. Hard drives are spinning platters that store your data in the longer term, and they're less involved in the speed of computing.
Toshiba pa3534u-1brs battery
The more programs running on startup, the hundreds of updates installed to the operating system, all those fancy toolbars -- they're all taking up memory. So the easiest way to get your computer running like new again is to upgrade your memory and turn off or uninstall any programs you don’t need. To find out the right kind of memory or for help eliminating those unwanted programs, stop in to your local Geek Squad.

Solar lights Batteries are easily replaced

Some solar lights have harsh, blue LEDs that make your lawn or garden look sterile. Over time, solar lights will begin to look dim and will be inadequate for lighting a path, which can be dangerous. The good news is that batteries are easily replaced.

Apple to step up and protect the app developers

Apple iOS app developers are being threatened with patent infringement lawsuits. But, the app developers are simply following the rules that Apple mandated, so ultimately the ball is in Apple's court to find a resolution.App Store
Lodsys, the company that holds the patents in questions, explained in a blog post, "The scope of their current licenses does NOT enable them to provide "pixie dust" to bless another (3rd party) business applications."
Unfortunately, these third-party developers face a Catch-22. With Apple requiring the use of the allegedly patent-infringing technologies in order to get iOS apps approved, and Lodsys suing them or requiring a cut of the revenue, app developers are between a rock and a hard place that could very well squash many of them right out of business.
Sure, an occasional Angry Birds comes along, but the vast majority of iOS apps aren't pulling in millions. Many apps are developed by small businesses or individuals that don't have the financial resources to mount a legal defense. At the same time, most apps also don't generate enough revenue to go around.
Dell d630 batteriesDell inspiron 1720 battery
The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) expects Apple to step up and defend developers. AnEFF blog post declares, "We've been waiting expectantly for Apple to step up and protect the app developers accused of patent infringement solely for using a technology that Apple required they use in order to sell their apps in Apple's App Store."
Apple a1185 battery
It would be one thing if app developers arbitrarily chose to include the technology in apps, but they didn't. In fact, most app developers would much rather not have to include the in-app purchase option and share 30 percent of the revenue with Apple. But, Apple made them do it. The alternative is to simply not develop apps.
The EFF sums up with, "By putting the burden on those least able to shoulder it, both Apple and Lodsys are harming not just developers but also the consumers who will see fewer apps and less innovation.".

Apple Store employees who have been sending in tips about ipad display

First of all, we’d like to thank all of the Apple Store employees who have been sending in tips over the past week on the new Store stuff.  Thank you and we hope to continue to hear from you guys (and gals!).  We’re hearing there is more to come.
We’re pasting without (much) editing some of the different tips we’ve gotten below:
  1. As noted, the home button does not work when Smart Sign app is running so it cannot be exited. The only way to get the home button to work again is to reset the iPad using the home and lock buttons.
  2. The Apple Store App will be updated tomorrow, and will be available world wide. It will support CTO orders, and should also be available as an iPad optimised app.
  3. The Display iPads have a different model number than current iPad 2s.  There has been some concern about the cameras: Is Apple watching us from HQ?  Listening?  Customers?  Also, we’ve been told there is a bunch of security stuff on the new iPads.  If they leave the Store they keep calling home with their Wifi coordinates.
  4. Apple is giving the old Pioneer tvs to one lucky Apple Employee per store. We had just upgraded all of them to new Sonys
  5. The iPads are charged using a kind of tape, which goes from the cable which enters the plastic casing, to the dock connector (you can hardly see it!). This charges the iPad and alarms it – if it is removed, the alarm will sound.
  6. There was some speculation about how the iPads are powered in the new display. They are connected via ribbon cables that hook into the dock connector. All the cables are custom made for each iPad, and also power the product they are advertising. All the content on the iPads is loaded from a server, nothing is stored locally except the custom application. The home buttons are disabled. We load them up, provision them to be signage iPads, boot the application, tell the iPad where in the store it’s located and that’s it. Apple can change prices and info live across all of retail
  7. We have one of the smaller stores in the market and we received 100 iPad 2′s for the smart signs. The app that runs the information disables the home button on the iPad (obviously) and the image is all encompassing. If products move tables we won’t necessarily have to move smart signs just tell the iPads to display different product information. There is a specially designed flat ribbon cable that powers the iPad, no inductive charging or anything like that.
I’m not going to post the gesture combination unless it hits the web but it does exist and Store managers know it.

Apple's failure to defend these developers is troubling and highlights

The Electronic Frontier Foundation has called Apple out for not responding fast enough, or at all, to a developing legal situation that's got some iOS developers spooked.
In a post on the group's blog today, EFF staff attorney Julie Samuels said Apple has put developers in a difficult position by requiring them to use within their apps in-app purchase (IAP), a mechanism that's been targeted by a third-party group that says the technology infringes on its patents.

The in-app purchase option within an iOS app, an inclusion that could cost developers an extra licensing fee.
The in-app purchase option within an iOS app, an inclusion that could cost developers an extra licensing fee.
That group, Lodsys, triggered a controversy last week when it began going after developers--instead of Apple--in seeking a licensing fee on apps that made use of the feature, threatening those who did not comply with legal action.
"Apple's failure to defend these developers is troubling and highlights at least two larger problems: patent trolls and developers' vulnerability when harassing and counterproductive patent litigation comes around," Samuels wrote.
In an FAQ about the matter earlier this week, Lodsys noted that Apple, along with Microsoft and Google, were not the targets, given their existing licensing of patents that cover IAP. However, developers that sell apps to customers with the IAP mechanism in place are not included as part of that license, and must therefore pay Lodsys for the right to use the technology.Dell vostro 1500 battery,Hp pavilion dv6 battery
"This is a problem that lawyers call a misallocation of burden. The law generally works to ensure that the party in the best position to address an issue bears the responsibility of handling that issue," Samuels wrote. "Here, absent protection from Apple, developers hoping to avoid a legal dispute must investigate each of the technologies that Apple provides to make sure none of them is patent-infringing."
Samuels argues that developers big and small simply cannot afford that level of investigation, especially when it comes to verifying that the features and technologies Apple requires developers to use are covered as the company's intellectual property. "Instead, they would expect (with good reason) that Apple wouldn't provide technologies in its App Store that open its developers up to liability--and/or would at least agree to defend them when a troll like Lodsys comes along," Samuels said.
Apple has still not publicly addressed Lodsys' claims or responded to requests for comment. A report by the Guardian earlier this week said Apple was "actively investigating" the matter.
So far Lodsys has targeted just a handful of developers, who have received letters giving them 21 days to get in touch, or face litigation. Nonetheless, there's been a chilling effect on those the group has not even gotten in touch with, such as Infinite Labs, the makers of the iOS utility Mover.

Google Android handset uses Samsung’s latest screen technology

We can debate what qualifies as a true 4G phone, but there’s no arguing the $199 Samsung Infuse 4G for AT&T’s network offers the largest display of any phone the carrier sells directly. The 4.5-inch Google Android handset uses Samsung’s latest screen technology, which certainly makes for a large device; perhaps too large for some. But this handful of a handset uses a thin design, fast mobile broadband radio and a speedier single-core processor than what competing devices offer. I’ve been using a review unit of the Samsung Infuse 4G on AT&T’s network for the past two weeks to see if there’s room in the collective pocket for this new smartphone.
Samsung nc10 battery

Hardware and Design

As soon as you see the Infuse 4G, you can’t help but notice the sheer size of the display, which takes up nearly the entire front of the phone. A small top and bottom bezel holds the front-facing camera, ambient light sensors, speaker and the four standard Android buttons, which are touch-sensitive on this device. Although the display uses a typical 800×480 resolution, the screen doesn’t appear pixelated at all; fonts and icons are smooth. Even at the lowest brightness, colors appear to pop from the screen due to Samsung’s Super AMOLED Plus display. All activities are more vivid and brighter than on any other handset I’ve used yet. The beautiful screen may be too big for Acer aspire one zg5 batteryAsus a32-f5 battery some, but I find it pleasing, thanks to larger text and more room on the software keyboard. The screen can appear washed-out in direct sunlight, but is still very usable.

Software and Performance

The handset runs on Android 2.2, which isn’t the latest version of Google’s mobile software, but few phones are yet shipping with Android 2.3. Samsung’s customized TouchWiz interface hides the bland stock look of Android in a pleasing way. A choice of three software keyboards are included: the standard Android keyboard, Samung’s own custom keyboard, and Swype. A handful of AT&T-branded applications are pre-installed, along with a few from Samsung. Specifically, Samsung’s AllShare app (used for media streaming), Media Hub for video rentals and purchases, and custom Task Manager app are pre-loaded on the device. The Infuse has access to the Android Market, and can also install software from outside the Market; a first for AT&T, which has blocked such “sideloaded” apps in the past.

TouchWiz offers up to seven home screens, and the program launcher is similar to that on Apple iOS devices. Samsung’s browser is fairly standard, but offers a useful brightness setting within the application. The browser experience is on par with any other Android handset at this price and in terms of speed, I found it to perform a slightly better than on the Nexus One handset I bought  Dell xps m1330 battery,Hp dv1000 battery last January. For the benchmark-minded, the Infuse 4G scored 5082 ms using SunSpider (where smaller numbers are better) as compared to 5487 ms on my Nexus One. That’s likely due in part to the Infuse’s slightly faster single-core CPU, which clocks in at 1.2 GHz. The Infuse 4G will generally be slower when compared to a dual-core handset, but only those who have used a dual-core smartphone would know the difference. The processor keeps Android moving at a fast pace when compared to other single-core handsets on the market.

Facebook will be the first company roll out PhotoDNA technology

While it’s great for business to be the leader, it also means that the social network has billions of photos to monitor and make sure abide by the company’s rules. Palo Alto today announced it will implement PhotoDNA on its network to further its commitment to keeping children from being victimized.
Facebook will be the first company outside of Microsoft to roll out the Redmond company’s PhotoDNA technology — a move that the companies are describing as a big step in the fight against child pornography, given the social network’s large user base and its potential to prompt other online services to follow suit.
PhotoDNA, developed in conjunction with Dartmouth College, derives what amounts to a digital fingerprint from photographs to be able to find and identify other versions of the same images online. Microsoft previously donated to PhotoDNA to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.discount laptop batteriesAsus a32-f3 battery,Dell d620 battery
“We hope that Facebook’s adoption of PhotoDNA serves as a springboard for other online service providers to take advantage of the opportunity available through NCMEC’s PhotoDNA program and, in fact, we know that others are exploring the possibility right now,” writes Bill Harmon, an associate general counsel in Microsoft’s Digital Crimes Unit, in a post this morning.
Harmon notes that Microsoft has implemented PhotoDNA in Bing and SkyDrive, identifying ”horrific images on our services that we would have never found otherwise.” He adds, “To date, we have evaluated more than two billion images on our services using the PhotoDNA signatures provided by NCMEC, leading to the identification of more than 1,000 matches on SkyDrive and 1,500 matches through Bing’s image search indexing.”
Facebook will hold a live event at noon Pacific on Friday to talk about the PhotoDNA rollout. (Note: Day corrected since original post.)
Microsoft is a minority shareholder in Facebook. More in this New York Times post this morning. Here’s a Microsoft graphic showing how the technology works.
acebook has joined Microsoft in sublicensing the technology for use on its own network. The company is the first online service provider besides Microsoft to adopt the PhotoDNA technology. NCMEC is hoping that Facebook’s decision to join will significantly expand the program’s impact, not only because the website has 600 million users, but also because it may convince other companies to follow suit.

Windows 8 Traditional flavour will run on Intel’s chips

Speaking at an Intel investor meeting on Tuesday, Renee James explained that Windows 8 will be available in versions for both x86 and ARM. James revealed there will be a Windows 8 Traditional flavour that will run on Intel’s chips and handle legacy applications. Microsoft is also planning a Windows 7 mode as part of the traditional SKU. “[Windows 8 traditional] means that our customers, or anyone who has an Intel-based or an x86-based product, will be able to run either Windows 7 mode or Windows 8 mode,” she said to The Register. “They’ll run all of their old applications, all of their old files – there’ll be no issue.”
James also revealed that on ARM chips there will be a “new experience” geared around mobile computing andtablet devices. The ARM space will have no support for legacy applications, “Our competitors will not be running legacy applications. Not now. Not ever.” Intel claims that it’s also able to run the new Windows 8 experience. “We’ll kind of have the best of both worlds. So we think we’re extraordinarily well-positioned in Windows 8,” said James.
Other Electronics News:
“We’ve been working for the last couple of years – very, very focused – on Windows 8,” she said. “I’m very excited about it. We’ve been working on it for a long time. There’s a lot of exciting new features and things about it that I think are going to be great for users, great for the PC and tablet industry.”
James’ comments were also mirrored in a Bloomberg report on Tuesday. Microsoft will create multiple versions of its next Windows operating system that work on ARM chips. WinRumors revealed a number of different Windows 8 ARM versions last month. Microsoft held a special press event at the Consumer Electronics Showin Las Vegas in January to introduce a technology preview of Microsoft’s Windows ARM support and show off an early build of Windows 8. The company is partnering with ARM-based manufactures NVIDIA, Qualcomm and Texas Instruments to produce new Tablet devices.
Microsoft is currently working on a Windows 8 “immersive” tablet user experience. However, the company may introduce Windows 8 ARM based tablets ahead of a full desktop release. Microsoft’s competitive tabletstrategy is believed to be further along than expected. Dell’s recently leaked Tablet Roadmap revealed that the OEM has marked Q1 2012 as its date for a Windows 8 based slate.

Five key risks that could impede Apple's dominance

The key reason for the success is the ecosystem Apple has created including iOS and app store that has over 350,000 apps.
The display of present iPhone 4 has 2:3 ratio, and the ration of the display of the upcoming iPhone 5 is rumored to be 3:4, similar to that of iPad display.
However, Jefferies analyst Peter Misek has listed five key risks that could impede Apple's dominance. Following are the risks:
1)  Closed system: iOS is a closed system that carriers, content providers, and partners fear as Apple exercises exceedingly tight control over the ecosystem. This could cause carriers to shift subsidy dollars away from iOS devices toward other devices that are likely to have more open ecosystems and lower price points.Hp presario cq40 batteryIbm thinkpad r40 battery
"In terms of content providers, we believe Apple is having a difficult time coming to terms with them. Aside from Disney (the owner of ABC, Pixar, Buena Vista, etc.), we believe content producers have been leery, especially on subscription pricing," Misek wrote in a note to clients.
2) Technical limitations: iOS devices have a handful of technical limitations that could impede growth, the two most important being security and bandwidth inefficiency.
"We continue to believe there is a pending spectrum and capacity crunch," the analyst said.
It could cause a crisis with prices jumping or services being hampered.
3) Arrogance and institutional complacency: Complacency is one of the major impediments to continued innovation and the competitive drive found in most technology companies. When companies appear to be alone at the top of a competitive market for extended periods of time it can breed a self absorption that fosters counter-competitive forces and destroys innovation.Hp dv9000 batteryHp nc8230 battery
4) Size: As companies grow larger it becomes increasingly difficult to manage disparate projects and R&D can spread too far and wide without cross collaboration.

5) Internal bias: A belief and/or desire to do it all internally creates issues for companies as they attempt to horizontally and/or vertically integrate too far all at once. Lack of specialization destroys profit and dilutes core compete.
iPhone 5 is rumored to have a more powerful battery than the existing version. iPhone 4 promises 14 hours of talk time on 2G and 7 hours on 3G as well as 300 hours of standby time. iPhone 5 is rumored to have a battery that will offer 16-17 hours of talk time on 2G and 7-8 hours on 3G. The standby time is expected to improve by a couple of hundred hours, at the least. The improved battery is expected to help iPhone 5 go head-to-head with the powerful Samsung Galaxy S II.
