Five key risks that could impede Apple's dominance

The key reason for the success is the ecosystem Apple has created including iOS and app store that has over 350,000 apps.

However, Jefferies analyst Peter Misek has listed five key risks that could impede Apple's dominance. Following are the risks:
1)  Closed system: iOS is a closed system that carriers, content providers, and partners fear as Apple exercises exceedingly tight control over the ecosystem. "In terms of content providers, we believe Apple is having a difficult time coming to terms with them. Aside from Disney (the owner of ABC, Pixar, Buena Vista, etc.), we believe content producers have been leery, especially on subscription pricing," Misek wrote in a note to clients.
2) Technical limitations: iOS devices have a handful of technical limitations that could impede growth, the two most important being security and bandwidth inefficiency.
"We continue to believe there is a pending spectrum and capacity crunch," the analyst said.
It could cause a crisis with prices jumping or services being hampered.
3) Arrogance and institutional complacency: Complacency is one of the major impediments to continued innovation and the competitive drive found in most technology companies. 4) Size: As companies grow larger it becomes increasingly difficult to manage disparate projects and R&D can spread too far and wide without cross collaboration.

5) Internal bias: A belief and/or desire to do it all internally creates issues for companies as they attempt to horizontally and/or vertically integrate too far all at once. Lack of specialization destroys profit and dilutes core compete.

The standby time is expected to improve by a couple of hundred hours, at the least. The improved battery is expected to help iPhone 5 go head-to-head with the powerful Samsung Galaxy S II.

Apple’s $60 billion in cash will be put to use to build out cloud offerings


Lucky for us, they are missing out on the fomenting of the new new thing: the cloud bubble.
Even if you paid extra special attention in social studies, you probably can’t name a single gold company that prospered in the mid-19th century and is around today. But you’d hard pressed to find someone who hasn’t heard of Levi Strauss & Co., who made the miners’ work apparel of choice. To belabor the point, you want to be positioned agnostically as possible for the cloud buildout; Cisco Systems Inc. and Riverbed are the two best names in the pick-and-shovel trade.
Recently, the world has become obsessed with what I’ll refer to collectively as “hard assets.” The dollar is tanking as Prof. Ben Bernanke brings academia to monetary policy. University endowments are hoarding gold on the advice of their alumni. Central banks, master market-timers that they are, are accumulating (or refusing to sell) bullion at these record levels. Farmland has seen more bubbles this century than almost any other asset in America, but yet again prices in the heartland are seeing double-digit gains — per quarter. After a brief interruption in 2008, investors of all stripes have come barreling back in to anything that they think is getting scarcer.
For instance, lithium consumption in batteries was up dramatically from 2002 to 2010, and is projected to climb fourfold over the next 10 years, according to the TRU Group’s estimates. Impressive, right? Commercial lithium-ion batteries didn’t even exist a few years back.

Apple already has eliminated optical drives on its MacBook Air model. Chief Executive Steve Jobs has been building out Apple’s data centers and cloud pipelines (buying music-streaming service Lala.com) in preparation for a full-scale cloud rollout.
Apple-branded cloud services, where you can watch any TV episode or listen to any song you’ve downloaded on any mobile Apple device, is the company’s next step in keeping the iPod/iPhone/iPad train rolling. The advantage that Apple has enjoyed with iTunes is beginning to erode, as music services like Pandora and Spotify have been changing consumption habits, with users migrating from single downloads to all-inclusive streaming services.
You better believe that Apple’s $60 billion in cash will be put to use to build out its cloud offerings, in the name of widening its competitive moat. The cloud will allow Apple to couple the ability to consume media anywhere with the Apple hardware cum user experience.
Not that Amazon and Google Inc. are going to let Apple have a free pass. Amazon recently introduced a free, 5-gigabyte “music locker,” where users can upload audio files and listen to them on any computer.
When Google rolled out Gmail as an invite-only service and offered a paltry 1GB of email storage, it inspired a frenzy. Now that Gmail storage is up to 7GB, when Google launches its own music-storage service (it’s trying for later this year), can it really start out with less than 10GB? All this data floating around in the cloud, which will multiply every few years, require the switches and cables and hardware made by Cisco and Riverbed.
The next few years will be an arms race, with companies trying to position themselves as cloud-competent. Research firm Gartner expects worldwide cloud-services revenue will grow from $46 billion in 2008 and $56 billion in 2009 to more than $150 billion in 2013.

Among the report’s key findings:

Thus, they are set to surpass these other passenger vehicle types in terms of both total storage and dollars in 2016, growing from 5.1 GWh and $495 million, to 41 GWh and $3.1 billion – CAGRs of 52% and 44%, respectively.
  • E-bikes pack minimal storage but compensate with sheer volume. Although their 0.4 kWh to 1.0 kWh of storage is a far cry from the Nissan Leaf’s 24-kWh battery pack, e-bikes will continue to dominate the overall market in terms of dollars and MWh. Replacement batteries for the currently deployed base – largely in China – plus strong growth in new sales will drive growth from 84.2 GWh and $12.0 billion in 2011, to 156.6 GWh and $24.3 billion in 2016, a CAGR of 13% in kWh and 15% in dollars.

The iPad is to tablets what the iPod was to MP3 players. I think that's safe to say now, right? I mean, here we are again with Apple churning out a runaway hit that defies logical, practical buying habits and ranks up there with cultural phenomena like Beanie Babies and Snuggies.
Still, when I hear people compare the iPad's success with the iPod's, something doesn't sit quite right with me. As someone who lived through the iPod wars and spent an unhealthy amount of time analyzing them, I feel obligated to drill past the superficial similarities of the iPod and iPad eras, and really see if they're as similar as we think Acer aspire 5500 battery,Acer aspire 5520 battery.
So let's take a trip down memory lane, look at the iPod wars for what they really were, and see if history is really repeating itself.

The windup

As many of you know, Apple wasn't the first company to make an MP3 player or a tablet. By the time the iPod came on the scene in 2001, products like the MPman had already been on the market for three years. The market was small, though, and only early adopters and die-hard music nuts were scooping them up. To Apple's credit, it was the first large company to really step into the MP3 player space (far ahead of its biggest competitor at the time, Microsoft).
When the iPod arrived, it didn't offer the most features or the best price, but it did include what was then an enviable 5GB capacity. It also featured a design that was so unlike anything else out there (including portable CD players, which still defined the era), that it felt like some precious gift from the future.
In the case of the iPad, everyone from Palm, to Microsoft, and even Apple itself, had taken stabs at tablets and pen-operated handhelds for decades. Concepts for tablet computers(cheap Hp dv1000 batteries cheap Hp dv2000 battery) very similar to the iPad predate the rise of personal computers.
And while Apple didn't have the early-bird advantage when it came to launching the iPad, this time around it did have the best price and a product that would take competitors years to catch up to in terms of both software and design. Also, though Apple had to take a big step out of its Mac-making comfort zone to make the first iPod, the iPad launched with nearly 10 years of portable electronics expertise under Apple's belt.
I won't say that Apple completely deserves the success it is enjoying with the iPad (90 percent market share is obscene). I do think that today's tablet competitors sometimes fail to appreciate how much 10 years of innovating with the iPod is what makes the iPad so enduring. To quote Carl Sagan, "If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe." By inventing iOS, iTunes, and the iPod, and creating the world's most popular mobile app store, Apple essentially took 10 years to create a universe before baking the iPad.
They don't have to like it, but if competitors can't appreciate the scale of the effort that went into the iPad (by way of the iPod), they'll never create its successor.

The answer is: YES and NO, it depends on the situation.
Having a battery fully charged and the laptop plugged in is not harmful, because as soon as the charge level reaches 100% the battery stops receiving charging energy and this energy is bypassed directly to the power supply system of the laptop.

Laptop batteries contain a capacity gauge that allows us to know the exact amount of energy stored. However, due to the charging/discharging cycles, this sensor tends to be inaccurate overtime.
Some laptops include in their BIOS, tools to recalibrate this battery gauge, which is nothing more than a full discharge followed by a full charge.
So to calibrate the gauge, it should be performed, in every 30 discharge cycles, a full discharge non-stop , followed by a also, non-stop, full charge.
An inaccurate gauge can lead to the fact that the the battery capacity values are are wrong. The battery may report that it still has 10% of capacity when in fact it has a much lower value, and this causes the computer to shutdown unexpectedly.

Better batteries key to Green power adoption by Electronics Wholesale News

As a partner at leading venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins, Joy is devoting much of his time to overseeing Kleiner's portfolio of nearly 60 green start-ups.  He spoke at Fortune's Brainstorm Green conference about what green technologies he believes is most likely to work, and why.
Joy is a believer in wind, or perhaps more accurately, micro-wind.  The big problem with wind power to date, he said, is that small windmills cost far more per watt generated Dell inspiron 1520 battery than do large wind farms with giant turbines and huge blades—sometime ten times as much. "The smaller wind gets the more expensive it gets," Joy said.
That gap can be closed, or at least greatly narrowed, Joy argued, just the way that better technology allowed microprocessors to replace mainframes, shrinking the physical computer and the cost of computing at the same time. FloDesign, a company that Kleiner Perkins has backed, has used a new design based on airplane engines, fundamentally changing the aerodynamics and, Joy says, the economics.

A pair of Joy's other green goals: "The ability to store and retrieve electrons at low cost [and] the ability to make them distributed and cheap."

Again the problem is scale. Systems to store green power by pumping water uphill then releasing it to generate power when its needed work in industrial settings, but not in a private home. Joy sees a few different viable options for personal power storage.
The first small-scale option is using compressed air to store and release power, Joy said.  Another: build  a cheaper twist on today's Dell latitude d820 battery. The trick, he says, is building slightly larger batteries than you'd find in a laptop and using water as the electrolyte.
One green disappointment for Joy: a failure to build a breakthrough desalination process that could cheaply turn seawater into drinking water.  The stumbling block he said, is that there so far has been no way around using heat to power the process. "Anybody who's worked with hot salt water knows how corrosive and nasty a thing it is."

If you are with the Sprint network for your mobile services and you have seen their selection of tablets you would know it’s lacking. The only large screened device that could be considered atablet by some is the 7″ Samsung Galaxy Tab but that device doesn’t offer the tablet version of Android OS and it doesn’t offer 4G mobile broadband, like the new rumored tablet does.
Yes, a new 4G equipped Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet could be coming soon to the Sprint network. The rumor was that Sprint was going to be announcing a new 4G tablet for their WiMAX network soon. Now the picture for today shows a 10.1″ Motorola XOOM branded with a Sprint logo, the XOOM is an Android 3.0 tablet that can have 4G capabilites.
The soonest that would could have this rumor and image confirmed by a Spring announcement would be CTIA 2012 that is going to be kicking off next week. CTIA is a yearly mobile themed convention that will be taking place in Orlando, Florida for this year.
After being teased for most of 2010, we're finally at a point where worthwhile tablets are starting to appear, with several imminent releases on the horizon. One of those is LG's G-Slate, which according to Internet chatter, will come out on April 20th.
That's about a month later than was initially planned, so hopefully T-Mobile and LG can make it happen without another delay. We're looking forward to this one, as it's T-Mobile's first 4G tablet. The G-Slate includes a 10-inch screen, stereoscopic 3D, and Google's Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) platform, among other goodies.
Also on tap at T-Mobile is LG's G2x smartphone, according to Device Magazine. Another promising device, the G2x is essentially T-Mobile's version of the LG Optimus 2X built around Nvidia's Tegra 2 chip and Android 2.2 baked in.
