Sony’s bold new VAIO C Series will turn-heads thanks to the superfluous colors

Sony’s bold new VAIO C Series will turn-heads thanks to the superfluous colors it can come in but using the machine is pretty bleh, concludes Trusted Review (TR). The reviewers at TRobtained a UK-edition 14-inch Intel Sandy Bridge Sony VAIO C for testing and the laptop really doesn’t stand-out in any category for performance.

The main troubles for a laptop usually lie in battery life testing, who the heck wants a laptop that has terrible battery life? The VAIO C I’m sad to report appears to suffer from that common ailment. In their testing TR found that the 6-cell battery that comes standard for the VAIO C lasts only 3 hours and 1 minute with the screen brightness lowered to 40 percent and Wi-Fi turned off. Those results are terrible, because once you have Wi-Fi turned on, to you know browse the world-wide web or access shared network files, that 3 hours will be diminished greatly. Having Wi-Fi turned is very taxing on notebooks.

After the battery issue the low processor and graphics performance are also common problems for laptops. With the Sony VAIO C the folks at TR found performance for both CPU processing and GPU processing to be below standard. The laptop they tested featured Intel’s 2.3-2.9 GHz Core i5-2410M dual-core processor and a dedicated AMD Radeon HD 6470M GPU with 512MB of video memory.
Considering the Sony VAIO C starts at $749.99 (which can easily shoot past $900 if you want the same CPU and a AMD GPU with your system) it doesn’t look to be that good of a buy. The only real reason TR could find for buying one of the new 2011 Sony VAIO C Series laptops is, “If you’re a fan of neon colour choices, transparent overlays and rubber keyboard covers”.
