How you can replace your laptop with the HP TouchPad

HP is the latest device manufacturer to enter the tablet market with their HP TouchPad. What sets the TouchPad apart from other tablets is the webOS operating system and its seamless multitasking. We also found that the user experience on the HP TouchPad was the closest to the iPad of all the different tablets we’ve tested.
In this video blog, Andy shows how you can replace your laptop with the HP TouchPad. All you need is the TouchPad itself and two accessories, the TouchStone Charging Dock and the HP Wireless Keyboard. With these simple add-ons you can use the new TouchPad in a very similar way to a traditional laptop. The key difference is that you don’t have a mouse – Instead you can use the touchscreen.
The HP TouchPad will be released in Canada on July 15th, retailing $520 for the 16GB. We expect there will be a lot more apps added in the near future. In the meantime, webOS has build-in apps for web browsing, e-mail, memos, Adobe Reader, maps, contacts, calendar, Facebook, YouTube and QuickOffice for creating and editing Microsoft Office documents. If you want more apps, the integrated HP App Catalog has a growing selection of webOS Apps for the HP TouchPad.
So what will it be--a tablet or a laptop? Come on, summer's speeding by and you'll be locked into a drab classroom sooner than you think. Tablets are all the rage today, but can a tablet replace a laptop in your must-have dorm-room gear bag? Maybe...or maybe not.
The HP Pavilion dm1z ($450) is either a puny ultraportable laptop or a superpowered netbook. The right hardware for you depends on what types of classes you plan to take, how intensive you expect your on-screen coursework to be, and which type of device you prefer. A tablet may not fit the needs of journalism, business, or law students, who must perform endless research and compose long documents, but it's perfect for chemistry or physics students who need a finger-friendly touchscreen for annotating formulas, or for medical school students who need an easy-to-balance slate as they make their rounds in a hospital.
Other Business News:
It may be that you'll want both a laptop and a tablet. Tablets are perfect for catching up on your notes while commuting to class by carpool, train, or bus; for taking notes unobtrusively; for reading; for tapping out email missives; and for Web surfing in a café or public area. A tablet can also act as a second, independent screen that you can use to call up Web references while writing on your laptop.
But versatile as it is, a tablet has limitations. Notably, it doesn't handle multitasking among multiple open windows well, nor does it offer convenient control over full-bore office apps like Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Last year, Brooklyn's Long Island University was one of many that doled out Apple iPad tablets to incoming freshmen and transfer students. The maneuver was popular among students, but it didn't free them to leave their laptops at home; instead they used the tablet as a tool to complement their laptop as they walked around campus.

Leading Tips for buying replacement notebook battery

Laptop batteries are crucial when working on the road. To get maximum performance from your laptop battery, fully optimize the laptop's power management features prior to use. However, there is a trade off when setting your laptop power management. You will achieve better power conservation in exchange for lesser computing performance. The power management system conserves the laptop battery power by setting the processor to run at a slower speed, dimming the laptop screen, slowing down the hard drive when it's not in use and causing the machine to go into sleep or suspend mode when it is inactive. Your laptop user's guide will provide information relating to specific power management features.
Before you begin looking for a suitable notebook, check to see what type of Hp dv2000 battery,Hp 530 battery your notebook has? There are different types of notebook batteries. This is NiCad, NiMH and Li-ion. Everyone has different properties, therefore may not be interchangeable. The NC and NiMH batteries are expensive and sensitive to high temperatures. The lithium-ion batteries last longer and are not sensitive to high temperatures. They are light in weight and less expensive than nickel-cadmium and NiMH batteries. It is therefore proposed to check the batter-y matches your notebook better.

Apple 17in MacBook Pro Reviews

We’ve already reviewed the new Apple MacBook Pro 15in, and the 17in model shares much of the same DNA. There’s just one pre-configured specification available, with the same Sandy Bridge processor and AMD graphics as its smaller sibling, and it also gets the new Intel Thunderbolt port ready for ultra-fast peripherals to arrive.
The biggest difference is the screen, and what a screen it is. It’s one of the few laptops we’ve seen recently with a traditional 1,920 x 1,200 resolution, and it positively beams with quality. Measuring our sample with a colorimeter, we found a huge maximum luminance of 342cd/m2 and a contrast ratio of 760:1. As for colour accuracy, a Delta E score of 5.6 is good for a laptop, although slightly less accurate than the screen on the 15in model.
That display is powered by both an Intel HD Graphics 3000 integrated chip and AMD’s Radeon HD 6750M graphics, and it’s suitably fast for such a big machine. It handled Crysis with ease, managing 52fps in our 1,600 x 900 test at Medium settings; upping that to native resolution saw the frame rate stay playable at 35fps, so you should be able to play the latest games in most of their glory. The GPU helps hugely with photo and video editing, too.
New benchmarks

That’s shown by the MacBook Pro 17in’s performance in our all-new Real World Benchmarks. A 2.2GHz Intel Core i7-2720QM and 4GB of DDR3 RAM combined for an overall score of 0.84, with a higher 0.88 in the Media segment, which uses Photoshop CS5, Sony Vegas and iTunes. It’s no faster than the 15in version, unsurprising given the identical core components, but the extra screen size makes it a very enticing prospect.
The rest will be familiar to Apple followers, with the slot-loading DVD writer on the right side and an array of ports on the left. You get three USB 2 and one FireWire port, that DiplayPort-compatible Thunderbolt connector, along with Gigabit Ethernet, two 3.5mm jacks and, disappointingly, an ExpressCard/34 slot. Photographers may feel they’d get more use out of the SDXC slot present on the smaller models.

The keyboard looks a bit lost in the middle of all that aluminium, coming, as it does, with no number pad, but it’s every bit as comfortable as the rest of the range. The huge touchpad beneath it supports all the usual gestures, even if you choose to dual-boot into Windows 7.
Doing that won’t get you great battery life, as the Boot Camp drivers don’t do switchable graphics, but we got impressive results in Mac OS X. Even with all that grunt and a 17in screen to power, the MacBook Pro lasted one minute shy of eight hours in our light-use browsing test. At 3kg, it’s not exactly light, but it certainly won’t let you down if you do choose to lug it away from the mains.

As usual, however, we have to question the price of an Apple product. There’s no doubt that there’s a lot of power here, and that battery life will wipe the floor with most laptops of this size, but can it really justify the £2,099 inc VAT price tag? For comparison, we looked at Dell’s new XPS 17 with the same CPU and RAM, a slightly smaller 640GB hard disk, Nvidia GeForce GT 555M graphics and a Full HD, 3D-capable screen. We can’t vouch for the screen quality and the graphics chip isn't quite as fast, but that would set you back just £1,314 inc VAT.
Don’t get us wrong – if you’re an imaging professional, it’s hard to argue that there are many more suitable choices out there than the new Apple MacBook Pro 17in. It’s a truly brilliant laptop in most key areas, but don’t let that fool you into thinking you’re getting great value for your money. As with previous top-end MacBook Pros, this 17in model comes at quite a premium.

Laptop Buying Guide - Reliability Study Highlights the Most Sturdy Laptop Makers

Laptop-Reliability Study Highlights the Most Sturdy Laptop Makers
There's nothing worse than buying new gear that malfunctions shortly after you purchase it. If you're in the market for a new laptop, check out warranty-provider SquareTrade's detailed laptop-reliability report to find the most dependable hardware.
The warranty company released a research paper late last year analyzing failure rates for over 30,000 laptops covered by their warranties. The report is full of good information worth considering before your next big purchase. The highlights of the study:
  • Looking at the first 3 years of ownership, 31% of laptop owners reported a failure to SquareTrade. Two-thirds of this failure (20.4%) came from hardware malfunctions, and one-third (10.6%) was reported as accidental damage.
  • Netbooks are projected to have a 20% higher failure rate from hardware malfunctions than more expensive laptop computers.
  • ASUS and Toshiba were the most reliable manufacturers, with fewer than 16% having a hardware malfunction over 3 years.

It's interesting to note that, on a whole, netbooks are a lot more failure prone than laptops. It's also perhaps a little surprising that a company like Apple, known for its hardware, still ends up a percentage point or two worse off than companies like ASUS and Toshiba when it comes to laptop malfunction rates.
Got a laptop brand you trust above all others for its reliability?
