Laptop battery life is getting ridiculous, benchmark-breaking boosts from two new notebook PCs with an an unprecedented runtime of 30+ hours.
When paired with an additional 9-cell Toshiba pa3285u-3bas battery,Sony vgp-bps2c battery, Lenovo’s ThinkPad T420 promises all-day uptime. It arrives March 29 for $779. The machine will incorporate high-performance NVIDIA 3D graphics and Intel’s next-gen Sandy Bridge processor, capable of handling heavier computing and multimedia loads for 30 hours straight.
The new HP EliteBook 8460p, a Windows 7 model available mid-March starting at $999, goes a step further, offering up to 32.5 hours of battery life and Intel Core i7 processing options. Designed for business users, the 14-inch notebook PC should offer more than enough energy to hop a plane, catch a cab ride, hit the hotel and keep on clicking.
Both provide a boon to travelers looking to maximize output on the road, or those who can’t go five minutes without tweaking their band’s latest song or YouTube video. Unfortunately for worker bees, though, the pair torpedoes any remaining excuses as to why you just can’t get that PowerPoint presentation done while cruising to Toledo.
The power-battery life trade-off
Apple also unveiled its new line of MacBook Pro laptops with speedier Intel Sandy Bridge processors, higher-resolution cameras for video chatting, and new Thunderbolt data transfer technology offering twice the speed of USB 3.0 and 20 times the speed of USB 2.0 connections for transferring movies, photo and other large files.
